The power of belief broken down

Here is a suggestion for a game to play at your next party. Write down this question on a piece of paper and pass it around. Make sure that everyone gets a chance to answer it. The question is, “How important is “belief” to you? I wonder what kind of answers you would get? Tell everyone that they can not qualify the question by asking questions about the question. Some will be tempted to ask things like, “Do you mean my religious beliefs?” or “Do you mean beliefs in general?” Just tell them to answer the question the best they can the way it is written, which is again: “How important is belief to you?” It will make for an interesting game I promise you that! Eventually someone in the group will say that belief is so important that it makes all things happen. This is the answer that the famous architect of the 50’s and 60’s Frank Lloyd Wright would have given. Frank Lloyd Wright was the controversial architect that created weird shaped houses and buildings that seemed to come out of the future. He used designs that many architects of his time said could not be done. You may recall one such house in the movie “North by Northwest”, an Alfred Hitchcock movie where the villain’s safe house hung over the side of Mount Rushmore on steel girders. Frank Lloyd Wriight is the chap from whom we take our quote today. He is the one who said, "The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen."

Actually, Wright’s ideas are not so extraordinary. Many people believe like he that things happen because our belief in them makes them happen. On the other hand, Wright said two things in that quotes and some people find these two statements a mystical match-up. Wright said “The thing always happens that you really believe in”, and “the belief in a thing makes it happen.” Some would argue that one thing has nothing to do with the other. What about you? Where do you stand when it comes to belief and Wright’s presumption? This is another one of those positive thinking statements that crosses the spiritual metaphysical line so it is important that we get it correct.

Part “A” of his statement is harder to agree with than part “B”. Consider, in part “B” all he is saying is that - beliefs have power and it is that power that makes things happen. Without that kind of power most things would not get done. He has my complete agreement on that. “Belief in a thing makes it happen.”

However part “A” is saying something different. It is saying that things happen that you believe. Well, isn’t also true that things happen that we sometimes don’t believe? Absolutely! I am in a middle aged man and I still experience things that happen that I just could not believe. But before you are quick to agree with that last statement I suggest you pause and ponder it a bit longer. I must ask myself openly and honestly if I have become a believer because a thing happened that I could not believe. Suddenly I am in a new reality. Time has put me there. Just because I did not believe it doesn’t mean that I still don’t believe it. It is very possible that my disbelief has turned into belief over time. Now as I begin to look at the evidence I am beginning to wonder if part “A” isn’t also true. Example: I do not believe that nice attractive women often pick bad men to be their love-interest or partner. In fact that is true. The nicest prettiest women do go after the seemingly seedy characters in men. And though I refuse to believe it, it happens time and again. Upon examination my belief has changed over time and “The thing that happens which I say I don’t believe, I really do believe” making part “A” agreeable after-all.

But Frank Lloyd Wright did not mean this as two separate statements. He really did mean it to be a mystical, spiritual meaining if you will. The thing always happens that you really believe in is meant for us to reflect on the idea that to what extent we believe in a thing it will happen. Further, it is because the power of our belief is what makes a thing happen. This statement taken at face value brings up all kinds of debate for it represents something more than the two separate statements. It is almost as if Frank Lloyd Wright was trying to tell us a grand secret of the universe. I take his side once again. I too believe in the sacredness of the power of belief. I would further add to his statement that once you have attained belief, or once you know a thing to be true in fact, it no longer requires faith because it is known. Faith is something that is needed before we know for certain. Belief follows faith in order.

I believe one of our missions on earth is to become knowledgeable. In a spiritual explanation one could say that process comes in three stages. The first is complete unknowning. The second is having faith in a thing (going with it even though you do not believe yet). The third is knowing it as fact, (faith is no longer required). That is belief. Once we see life in those three stages, Frank Lloyd Wright’s presumption takes on the greater meaning I spoke about.

Read this article a second time to get the thrust. So why is this important to our self empowerment? Because in seeking self empowerment one looks for the sources of power from within. One source is belief; but before there is belief there is need of faith and knowing this will help us to be self empowered.

Factors influencing the impact of humor in persuasion

Humor’s effectiveness will always ride the emotional tides of your audience members. How well a joke goes over may depend on whose company your prospects are in, whether they are winding down for the day or still up against deadlines or other workplace pressures, whether they are awake and alert or feeling drowsy, whether they have a headache, etc. Always be in tune with how your audience is feeling and always assess the atmosphere you’re in to determine whether it is conducive to humor.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to whether or not humor will be effective in persuading someone. Often, it will simply be the mood or situation that makes it obvious whether humor is appropriate or not. For example, if someone has just learned of a death in her family, you probably shouldn’t start cracking jokes. Another example would be if you were speaking in a religious setting where there was an expectation that a certain degree of reverence always be maintained. You probably wouldn’t go wild with the humor in this kind of setting. The appropriateness of humor for a particular setting or mood is usually not too difficult to discern. You just have to be observant. What may be funny to one person one day will not be funny the next, even if it’s the exact same joke told in the exact same way.

There are many other less apparent factors that influence humor. Have you ever considered factors such as what time of day it is, the number of people in your audience or even the layout and lighting of the room? All of these things can influence how your humor will come across. As far as time of day, mornings are typically more stressful, since it is then when most people are confronted with all the demands that await them. Under certain circumstances, this stressfulness may be precisely the type of mood you’re looking for. Other times, you may want an audience that’s a little more relaxed. When people are on a lunch break or winding down for the day and readying themselves to leave work, you may find that they are more receptive to a good joke.

When considering the size of your audience, the general rule of thumb is “the bigger, the better.” That is, the bigger your audience, the more laughter you will typically get. Why is this? It’s because laughter is contagious. The more people involved, the more we laugh. For example, when a movie theater is packed, the laughter tends to be greater and last longer than when there are only four people in the audience. This is one of the reasons why TV producers use canned laughter in their programming. Often the scenario being acted out really isn’t even that funny, but studies show that the use of laugh tracks actually gets us to laugh more. Whether the material even registered as being funny or not, we are more inclined to laugh along if we hear others laughing.

Knowledge of this tendency can give you a real advantage when considering the layout of the room you’ll be speaking in. Notice the seating arrangement. How many people are expected to show up compared to how many chairs are set up? Always make sure there are less chairs set up than there are people expected. If audience members sit closer together, it will be easier to get the energy going and evoke more laughter than it would be if they were spread out all over the room. A seemingly sparse audience will surely dampen humor’s designed effect. A more compact seating arrangement will not only help people laugh more freely and more often, but it will also give off the illusion of greater attendance. Another consideration is the lighting of your speaking area. The audience’s ability to see your facial expressions and body language is of prime importance.

New age spirituality morning has been all night coming part 73

In the middle of trying to put the pieces together, there was a banging on my bedroom door and, as they sometimes do, Malika and Jonathan rushed in.

“Hi, Daddy!” Shouted Jonathan.

“We thought you were sleeping,” said Malika. “But when we heard the phone, we knew you had to be awake.” “Hi kids,” I said. “Is everything OK?”

They must have seen the confusion on my face as I sat there. Malika replied, “Yes, of course. What’s the matter, Daddy?”

“Nothing. Did you and Jonathan have a good time last evening? You didn’t give the baby-sitter a rough time, I hope.”

“Baby-sitter?” She asked. “What baby-sitter?”

“The one who took care of you last night,” I said. “What do you think I’m talking about?”

“We didn’t have a baby-sitter last night, Daddy. Are you sure you’re OK?”

“Maybe you were sleeping and the phone woke you up in the middle of a dream,” said Jonathan.

I looked at them curiously and then said, “Yes, I must have been dreaming. It seemed so real.”

“Tell us about your dream, Daddy,” said Malika.

Not wanting to say much, I replied, “It was something about going out to dinner with friends and leaving you and Jonathan with a sitter. That’s how dreams are sometimes. They seem so real.”

“You were so tired when you came home from the office yesterday,” Malika said, “that immediately after dinner, you told us you needed a nap. You changed into your nightclothes and fell asleep. It was very early. You really slept for a long time. I hope you’re rested now and feel a lot better.”

“And, Daddy,” said Jonathan, “you left the lights on. Malika and I turned them off.”

“Well, thank you. Let’s go get washed up and I’ll be down for breakfast in a few minutes,” I said.

I got out of bed and after a little while went downstairs for breakfast. Saturdays and Sundays have always been very special days for the children and me. During the week, they attend school and I go to the office. But on weekends we spend as much time as possible with one another. They grow so quickly and then they’re gone. I wanted to enjoy every moment I spent with them. Although it may appear at times that raising children is 90 percent sheer frustration and 10 percent pure enjoyment, I think the joy and the love make it all worthwhile. Like most other Saturdays, today promised to be fun.

After breakfast, the children wanted to go over to a friend’s house for a short while. When they were gone, I went upstairs and decided to rearrange some of my books while listening to music. Last night’s dream was still so vivid. If I listened carefully, I could still hear the mournful sound of bagpipes and the crash of the ocean upon the shores of the little village.

Thinking about nothing in particular and everything in general, I was starting to put the dream into the background of my mind when I noticed a sheet of paper at the foot of my bed. Paper comes from trees, I mused as I reached down and picked it up. Trees? Theo was speaking about trees last evening. Who was Theo? Oh, the dream, of course. Well, dreams are dreams and reality is reality, and they are two distinct segments of life. Thus ran my thoughts.

I glanced at the writing on the sheet of paper, assuming that it belonged to Jonathan or Malika. There, penned in beautiful letters, were the words, “Dinner at the Restaurant at the Edge of Eternity — 7:00 P. M.” I stared at it again, as I stood there in total amazement. Perhaps my dream was not a dream after all.

From loneliness to connection

Dear Jane, I know a lot of people as acquaintances but I don’t seem to have close friends anymore. Everyone seems too busy. Sometimes I’m too busy to sit and listen. But then I feel lonely and isolated. Does everyone feel this way?

As a life coach for over 20 years, I have noticed that my clients are looking for more than insights or pearls of wisdom; they want a guarantee that they can trust that they will not have to vie for someone’s attention, that they will be heard and cared about, and that they will be listened well to, without interruption and without feeling rushed.

Most of us don’t consider ourselves isolated or friendless. Yet, almost 25% of Americans say they don’t have even one close friend they confide in. What this tells me is that we may no longer expect friends to take the time to listen or to have the skills to help us reflect on our circumstances. In other words, intimacy, while valued highly as suggested by the price people are willing to pay for it professionally, is no longer a criterion we gauge our friendships by.

This puts more pressure on mates, who are as ill prepared and time crunched as everyone else. Many of my clients fight with their significant others more about communication or lack of it than about sex, money, or children. They have a hard time resolving day-to-day issues because they can’t find the time to talk to each other or don’t feel listened to, resulting in escalating arguments rather than solutions.

Couples sometimes schedule with me as a way of carving out uninterrupted time to talk or to have a mediator who will keep them from hurting each other’s feelings. My work is about supporting a receptive environment where they can each listen better and can practice communicating sensitively. This takes practice—lots of practice—which we are increasingly deprived of in our culture.

It isn’t just technology that is at cause; it is the dwindling social skills as a result of technology that hinder intimacy and friendships. It takes more than just time to be a good listener; it takes skill. One has to learn to focus one’s attention on someone else to discern and help with underlying feelings that might be too painful or embarrassing to reveal immediately. This can’t be done via text messaging or email. It is tricky enough to do on the phone when we can’t see someone’s face. Without practice or the expectation from one another that we provide this, we lose both the ability and the commitment to provide the glue that binds us as something more than acquaintances.

How does technology affect our friendships and even our ability to know how to be a good friend? In the 1970’s my husband was on the baseball team at Stanford and when the team traveled to another university for a game, the guys spent their time on the bus talking together. About what? He doesn’t remember. But there was nothing else to do. Without ipods and laptops, these guys were forced to use each other to pass the time and build the camaraderie that cemented friendships he has to this day.

He went back for a Stanford reunion last year and saw something that alarmed him: When the football team got off the bus, they weren’t talking or laughing; they were all plugged into ipods. None of them seemed connected with each other. He imagined they spent the entire duration of the trip alone in their own world of music rather than goofing around, strategizing, learning more about each other, in other words, creating bonds that would last beyond their time as college athletes. He felt saddened for them. How would kids from the suburbs and those from blighted urban areas bridge the gap among themselves if they didn’t find more common ground than what was underneath their feet during a game?

If what used to be a natural alignment such as teammates can be broken by a pocket-sized white rectangle that isolates us in a bubble, how are we to reach out or be reached out to? Even taking the bus to work used to involve seeing the same people every day, affording us an opportunity to reach out to our neighbors and develop connections. Today, on a typical bus ride during commute hours, more than likely we will be on our cell phone or plunking at our laptop keyboard, using the bus as our mobile office. We’re working longer and harder and the price we pay is increased isolation.

With online chat rooms and dating services, text messaging, and email, we can “exclude the wrong people” and avoid “wasting time.” But how many of us who are happy in a relationship would have picked our mates out of a line up? Did we really end up using the criteria we had in our minds or on paper? Does our partner really look or always behave like our wish list? Who are we overlooking by not taking the time to have a cup of coffee but instead choosing to not “wink” back at?

What can we do about this trend? And do we want to do it? Is it simply more efficient to pay for therapy or coaching? The problem with relying solely on “professional friendship” is who is going to pick up your child from school because your boss wants you to stay late or the car breaks down? And unfortunately, you might be afraid to bother even those you consider friends if you haven’t taken the time to nurture these relationships. Needing something in an emergency becomes an embarrassment instead of part of the pact of friendship.

But even beyond emergencies, we owe it to ourselves to have at least one or two people who are available to us without having to whip out our appointment calendars. It takes conscious effort these days. We live in suburbs where we may not be in walking distance to that special friend. We have jobs and chores and families that demand so much of our time and focus. But we need friendship perhaps today more than ever.

Friendship, community, and intimacy require changing our routine, unplugging from the TV and computer, picking up the phone instead of emailing, having meals together regularly, even doing errands together. Most of all, we need to slow down long enough to listen. We will make these efforts when we remember that a true friend is both an investment and a treasure.

Why do some people suffer from excessive blushing

For most people, blushing is a normal reaction to being embarrassed. However, for people who have a problem with excessive blushing, embarrassment is far from the only trigger for blushing. For problem blushers, blushing occurs frequently and in response to all types of situations and events.

People who blush excessively seem to blush randomly, with no visible triggering event. However, blushing is always a physical reaction to some type of mental trigger. It can be triggered by embarrassment, being in the limelight, being concerned about perceptions of other people, and even by simply being fearful of blushing. People who blush excessively tend to be hypersensitive to being judged by other people, and so frequently blush any time they feel that other people are watching or thinking about them.

Problem blushers become even more self conscious as a result of their excessive blushing, and so frequently develop a phobia associated with blushing. Unfortunately, being afraid of blushing often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy for problem blushers that exacerbates the problem.

When problem blushers become aware that they have tendency to blush more frequently than other people, their first reaction is often to try to control their blushing. They become fixated on trying to control blushing, and thus come to live with a constant dread of blushing. Such a reaction leads to efforts to resist blushing, which are often futile and counterproductive.

The more a problem blusher tries not to blush, the more likely the person is to blush. The act of mentally focusing on blushing, or trying to avoid blushing, can be a mental trigger that brings on a physiological blushing reaction. When blushing is on a person’s mind all of the time, blushing is likely to occur with a greater frequency and intensity. Therefore, the more a person tries to ward off blushing, the more problems the person is likely to experience with blushing.

The fear of blushing can be a tormenting experience for someone people who blush excessively. Excessive blushing that one cannot control is both stressful and frustrating, and can lead to serious self esteem and social problems. Problem blushing and the fear associated with it can even lead to depression if it continues unchecked.

One of the best ways to reduce problem blushing is to stop fighting it so much. There are many useful tips and suggestions that can help problem blushers learn to let go of the fear that intensifies their problem blushing behavior.

One excellent resource is Blushing Free, a downloadable audio book by author Gary Ambrosh. To immediately begin learning how to reduce problem blushing, visit BlushingFree. com. Success is an open book test secrets strategies and shortcuts to reaching exponential success

We know many of the things we should be doing to be happier, to be more physically fit and to be more financially secure. We know we should set our goals, manage our time, and spend more time with our families, exercise, eat right, work hard, sleep more and have a positive mental attitude. We want to accomplish great feats and to be the best at what we do. And we want it all now.

Why are some people super-successful, while others dwell in mediocrity? Ask almost anyone out there, and I bet they’ll say they want more out of life. They want to be better, to accomplish more or to pursue those buried and forgotten goals. So, why do so many of us fall short of achieving our dreams? We all want success. We all want to be happy. We all want to be self-disciplined and fulfill our wildest dreams. In fact, we don’t just want success; we want massive success.

So, why aren’t we doing these things? The desire is there, right? Does it ever seem beyond your reach? The good news is that if you really want success, you can have it. Success is an open book test in which the answers are right in front of you if you know where to look for them. Everyone has enormous potential. You were designed for greatness. There is something you are predestined to accomplish. Let’s start on your success today. Don’t procrastinate any longer. When you take a look at your life, know that there are no do-overs, reset buttons or mulligans. This is it, so it’s time to make it happen. No longer will you stick your big toe in the pool of success; it’s time to jump in.

We all deserve and desire to be happy, to be truly successful and to have an enjoyable life. We were put on this Earth to be happy. Rather than fretting over the future, you need to enjoy life’s journey and know what it takes to achieve success and happiness. Things will not change with hope and desire alone, although they are great starting points. You also need to take action. You need to have a plan in mind and take control of your life. We all have to find that winning edge that will propel us to the top and help us achieve the things we know we are capable of accomplishing. In this chapter, we are going to take your dreams and desires and turn them into reality.

Remember the open book tests in school and how we could look up the answers?

The answers were there, right in front of us; we just had to be willing to go to the source to find the answer. Metaphorically speaking, all of the amazingly successful people in the world are constantly leaving behind clues or answers—like an open book—that can help anyone become extremely successful. I refer to the polished mastery of these combined skills as the “Exponential Factor.” When you have the Exponential Factor, your potential for success skyrockets to unlimited heights. As the name suggests, your possibilities for success and greatness become exponential.

Life is a fantastic game. We can spend our time either training and winning or waiting in the bleachers of life, watching and wishing we were on the field doing the things we really know we can and want to do. You are in charge of your life. How you live is your decision and yours alone. You can make excuses and rationalize all day why you are not on the field, but until you decide you want to be in the game, that you want to enjoy the victories as well as suffer the bruises and defeats, you will not be happy or reach the success you know you deserve or are capable of achieving.

THE PROBLEMS AND PITFALLS

There are many quick fixes that create excitement and motivation, ones that work for a few days or even months, but eventually after that initial euphoric feeling wears off, we are back to square one. We are back to wanting and wishing, but with no results. Why, after all the flashy seminars and conferences and CDs, are we still only temporarily motivated? Why have we still not arrived at the destination we call success? What is taking us so long? Motivation and personal development is a billion-dollar industry, and it only continues to grow each year. Thousands of books and lectures exist on the topics of success and personal development. They’re all telling us what we want to hear, but where are the lasting long-term results? Why, after so much invested time, is it always back to our warm comfort zone?

I have often wondered why, even in the midst of best intentions, excitement declines and persistence deteriorates. Even the endeavors that are most meaningful to us seem to get lost in the distance when we are confronted by life’s daily setbacks, hassles and frustrations. All too often, the path to success, at times so clearly defined, begins to get blurry again. But lack of long-term success goes much deeper than daily setbacks, hassles and frustrations. Take time to examine where all the detours come from: the self-doubt, the self-sabotage, the nagging, the negative inner voice and the inability to stick to the things you know you should be doing. Sometimes, our lack of persistence stems from the fact that the required behavior is not part of our customary pattern. Other times, it’s because we’re not doing it for the right reasons or in the right way. Sometimes, it’s because we’re trying to treat the surface problem or behavior rather than the underlying issue it stems from. That is, we’re treating the symptoms instead of the disease. It is like trying to get off a car stuck on cruise control.

Whatever the reasons may be, you can’t keep waiting around Are you waiting for a terrible experience to make you change your ways? Are you hoping for a miracle, the lottery or Publisher’s Clearinghouse to change your life? I want to show you how to get started now. This is not just another motivational attempt. These concepts will change your life, will supercharge your success and will bring you happiness. Now it is time to give yourself permission to win.

A lesson in gaslighting

There's a psychological technique called gaslighting which is incredibly potent especially in persuasive situations.

A few nights ago I was watching TV, just flipping around aimlessly, and came upon an old episode of M*A*S*H. In this episode, BJ is bored and to entertain himself he cooks up a plan for amusement at Winchester's expense.

BJ takes a pair of Winchester's pants and in their place replaces them with a pair two sizes too large. When Winchester eventually puts the pants on, BJ asks if Winchester is okay. He mentions that he's noticed him looking a little under the weather and suggests that he maybe has a virus because he's looking too thin.

Later, BJ replaces the pants that are too large, with a pair that are way too small. When Winchester changes again, BJ casually notices how heavy Winchester has become, which has a dramatic effect on Winchester, prompting him to go on a crash diet.

Hawkeye, having observed the interactions, asks BJ, "What's next?"

"Tomorrow he gets taller," BJ responds.

This illustrates the very essence of gaslighting. In this instance, gaslighting is a harmless prank. Gaslighting also has the potential to be quite dangerous and cruel when used with malice. So why am I writing about it? So that you might protect yourself from it should someone try to use it against you.

With all of the persuasion techniques I teach, know that they are incredibly powerful tools and when used without integrity will get you nowhere fast. They should always be used ethically and with integrity.

The term gaslighting came from the 1944 film of the same name and came to be defined as the ruthless manipulation of a person into believing something that isn't true.

In 'Gaslighting' the husband tries to convince his wife that she's insane so that she'll have to be institutionalized, thus getting her out of his way. His subtle manipulations cause her to doubt her own grasp on reality.

Using gaslighting in a way that is not unethical could include understanding how your affluent prospect interprets their own reality.

The technique of gaslighting has five main strategies.

The first strategy involves repeatedly questioning a person thus planting doubt.

If you watch game shows, you'll notice that they use this to raise the level of tension and oftentimes this results in the contestant doubting their decision. "Are you sure? Is this really your final answer?"

This can be accomplished without even speaking. Picture someone cocking their head, raising their eyebrow. This can install in the receiver that doubt putting them off guard.

It works all the better if you come off as having their best interest in mind.

The second strategy is to point out things that simply aren't there.

This is useful in undermining their feeling of reality. It can also be used in pointing out assets and qualities in a person who has no idea that they have these assets and qualities (whether or not they actually do).

For example, appealing to your boss', client's, prospect's or authority figure's sense of vanity or ego can work tremendously.

If the ego massage is completely without merit and the compliments are baseless, then you'll most likely be discovered. Use subtlety with tiny portions of reality.

Strategy number three is primarily for the use of experts--someone who has specialized knowledge or divine access to information which you haven't the 'connections' to learn. ..i. e. think therapist, minister, psychics. They have very esoteric, mysterious or specialized knowledge that will give you the answer you seek. Rather, the answer that they wish for you to believe you seek.

This will cause lowered defenses and a more trusting feeling from the client.

Strategy number four is to reveal the secret thoughts of others.

This is also known as gossip. It's a special kind of gossip which maneuvers in an attempt to give insight. It's just between 'us', it's from me, someone who cares enough to tell you what other people are saying. . .

This can be used with 'nice gossip' i. e. compliments about that person that you weren't supposed to share. It can install positive behavior.

And last, but not least, the final strategy is to use the power of the many against the tiny power of one.

You'll see this used by children, politicians, in religion, through the media, by the military, and throughout society.

Orwell called it 'group think' and as the corporations gain more and more control over the distribution of information, it becomes harder and harder to find accurate information, and even harder to stand away from the crowd, especially when you're right.

It's powerful to have 'the many' on your side, and very difficult to maintain your position when you're up against the many.

Gaslighting isn't nice. It's designed to trick people into self-doubt. And yet, there are positive ways it can be used.

* You have strong desire but lack belief in your ability or the future?

* You are working harder but can't seem to make any progress?

Do you ever wish that:

* You could have more confidence to do the things you really want to?

* You had more self esteem to stand up for what you believe in?

* You could command respect from your colleagues?

* You could impress others when they meet you?

Is nail biting a constant problem for you

Nail Biting is a habit where a person usually bites their fingernails or toenails. This maybe because a person is feeling bored, nervous, stressed or he/she maybe hungry. The reasons are varied. Excessive nail biting is a sign of mental or emotional disorder. This habit can be compulsive and a person maybe busy nail biting unconsciously where the person is not at all aware that he/she is doing it. In extreme cases, some people bite their nails while sleeping. Sometimes people do bite very hard, so hard that the shape of their nails is altered. This happens in case of a bad dream or stress when dreaming.

Nail biting is a symptom of oral fixation according to the Freudian theory. The medical term for nail biting is chronic onychophagia. Nail biting is observed in nearly all stages of life. An estimated percentage is as follows: About 30% in the age group of 7 to 10 years old, 45% of adolescents, 25% in young adults and about 10% in older adults. Nail biting is more common amongst younger males.

So what is the harm in nail biting? Some of the most important reasons to stop nailing biting are:

Nail biting paves the way for bacteria that reside below the nails surface. They are difficult to clean and enter your mouth easily, which in turn can cause a viral infection. The bacteria may spread throughout the body as it’s mixed with saliva. Fingertips, which are bitten, are often sensitive to pain as the soft skin is left exposed. Russian researchers have stated that children who habitually bite their nails have a low IQ. Those who are working with materials such as iron, paint may end up poisoning themselves because nail biting ensures that the chemicals enter the bloodstream through open wounds.

There are many simple ways to avoid nail biting. One can visit a doctor and get the nails examined. Take a picture of your bitten nails and imagine how would they look when they are healthy and clean. If you can’t quit biting all your nails at once, select one nail, which you would not bite and after few days you will have a fully grown and clean nail.

This is your reward for not biting the nails. This can motivate you to stop nail biting. Eating calcium and magnesium tablets will help you. Distract yourself with a hobby where you can keep your hands busy. Nail biting can harm your health and honestly a set of such shoddy hands is certainly not a healthy site.

How to prevail over worry

Worry though seems to be one word; it holds the power to change one’s life completely. Worry can incite you to take wrong decisions which can prove fatal in later stages of life. Thus, one needs to keep worry at bay if he/ she want to emerge successful in battle of circumstances. Winners and losers are differentiated by a thin line and the point which draws the difference between two is the way they take situations which life throws at them. Winner never feels worried and stays cool whereas looser tend to behave as grief stricken and is unable to handle the situations well. Though it is not difficult to stay calm and composed but if you feel you get webbed by worries easily, you need to know how to prevail over worry and keep yourself calm.

First of all you must ponder over the way you take situations coming across you. Whether you take things in an aggravated manner or not e. g. if you feel tensed when a new task is assigned to you without having an insight into it and the way you can get your work accomplished, you worry about how to do it. If tension and panic are your first reactions, then you need to work on this aspect of yours. You need to change your attitude. Attitude is the way you perceive the situations. Always remember, don’t take any decisions in haste or in tension as often you make wrong decisions. Moreover, being worried you are not able to think for any alternative which would exist. For this, you should consult your friends or family as they look from different view of point and may be they can conclude a better solution for the same situation that wouldn’t have came into your mind earlier.

Practice prior to the race

What does it take to have a great RC car race? I give you one word – practice. Of course, there are other factors (such as equipment, overall set up) which contribute to a racer’s victory or loss but it all boils down to a good practice run.

Go ahead and check other reading materials focused on RC related topics. You’d realize that practice does make a difference to how your RC car performs during the actual competition.

When you get to the venue, you can start practicing (that is if you have already signed up for the registration) on the track. Don’t get too excited though, your first practice run should be all about getting the feeling of the track, familiarizing it which means there’s no need to go running on top speed just yet. Learn how the track is laid out and master it if you can. Also, during this time, use an old and worn battery pack since running the track for the first time isn’t going to be pleasing at all.

On your next run, focus on your car and how you can best handle it. During your second run, try to see or feel anything that you think isn’t going to work out for you on the actual race. If everything seems to work okay don’t change any of your settings. After completing this run, you’re ready to go on your last and final run for practice. This time though, you need to shift your focus from all the other elements on the track to just your car and nothing else.

You have to realize that by this time, you can make any last adjustments you desire but then, don’t attempt in doing so if you’re not comfortable with it. To make sure that your settings is going to work accordingly, try to setup your car to the nearest setup ideal for the track. Though you may not set it up accurately, (since there’s no such thing as perfect) you’d at least get it working efficiently on the track during the race.
